Meanwhile, the manager and owner of Nana Backpackers hostel, where several of the tourists taken ill were believed to have been staying, have since been detained by local authorities. The hostel is said to be still operating but no longer accepting new guests.
The 19-year-old’s father, Mark Jones, has now shared a heartbreaking tribute to his young daughter, saying that she had been on ‘the trip of a lifetime’ with Bowles.
“This was meant to be a trip full of lifelong memories, and was to be the first of many,” the grieving father said in a statement.
“Bianca wanted to explore the world, meet new friends, lead and create change for good.”
Jones then went on to make a direct plea to the government of Laos, urging them to not let his daughter’s death be in vain.

An Australian teen is thought to be the fourth person to have died in a suspected mass poisoning after drinking alcohol in Laos.
The family of 19-year-old Bianca Jones confirmed that she had died in a Thai hospital a week after a suspected methanol poisoning incident following the deaths of three others.
The US State Department confirmed that an American man had died after they drank suspected tainted alcohol in Vang Vieng, while Denmark’s foreign ministry also confirmed that two of their citizens had died.
In a statement following their daughter’s death, her family said: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that our beloved daughter and sister, Bianca Jones, has passed away.
“She was surrounded by love, and we are comforted by the knowledge that her incredible spirit touched so many lives during her time with us.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support, love, and prayers we’ve received from across Australia. The kindness shown to our family during this unimaginable time has been truly humbling.”
Jones and her friend Holly Bowles, also 19, had been staying in the popular tourist town of Vang Vieng when they both fell seriously ill and were rushed from Laos to a hospital in Thailand.
Bowles remains in hospital after falling ill on a night out on 13 November where they are believed to have consumed drinks tainted with methanol.
According to the Associated Press, the hostel they were staying at offered free shots of Lao vodka to over 100 guests before they went on their night out, with the hostel manager saying no other guests reported health issues.
Authorities have not confirmed where the location of the suspected poisoning was, with Bowles still in hospital and the BBC reporting that a British woman may also be in hospital on life support.

New Zealand’s foreign ministry said that one of their citizens was unwell in Laos and might be another victim of the suspected methanol poisoning, and had updated their travel advice accordingly.
Methanol is toxic to humans, but is sometimes mixed into cheap bootleg booze to increase its alcohol content.
Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese said: “This is every parent’s very worst fear and a nightmare that no one should have to endure.
“We also take this moment to say that we’re thinking of Bianca’s friend Holly Bowles who is fighting for her life.”
There have been a number of mass poisoning incidents which have left multiple people dead in recent times.

The family of a British teen who is facing the potential of spending up to 20 years in a Dubai prison have appealed to the foreign secretary for help getting him home.
According to human rights group Detained in Dubai, 18-year-old Marcus Fakana of Tottenham travelled to the Middle Eastern city for a holiday with his parents on 26 August.
While over there he struck up a romance with a fellow Londoner who was also out there, with Marcus telling the human rights group that they ‘had a wonderful time together’ and he told his parents about the relationship but she couldn’t tell hers ‘because they were strict’.
“She had to meet me without telling them it was to see a boy,” the 18-year-old explained.
“When she left, I couldn’t wait to see her again when I got home. Then suddenly, police knocked on our hotel door. They said they were taking me in for questioning but wouldn’t tell me why. I couldn’t imagine what for. I was frightened and my parents were terrified.”

At the time of the relationship, the girl was 17 years old. and while Dubai did recently make sex outside of marriage legal for tourists, both people must be at least 18 years old.
The girl has since turned 18, but Marcus was told that her mother had reported the relationship to authorities in Dubai after their family had returned to London.
The Tottenham lad had been informed that the girl’s mother allegedly found out after looking through her daughter’s phone.
Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling said the woman was ‘clearly a very strict mother to involve police in a private matter that is completely legal in the country where she lives and where the children have grown up’.
However, she added that the woman might not have known she was potentially condemning Marcus to up to 20 years in prison.

After police arrived at his hotel room, the 18-year-old was held at Al Barsha Police Station for three days,, During that time. he was not allowed to contact his parents or call anyone.
Marcus is still over in Dubai and facing the prospect of up to 20 years behind bars, prompting requests from his family to foreign secretary David Lammy to help get him back to the UK, while they’ve been spending a lot of money to provide him with somewhere to live out there.
He said: “I’m living in Airbnbs that are costing my family £2,000 per month. They had to go home to work. They earn a humble living, my mother is a cleaner and my dad works in a warehouse.
“They saved up for this one-off holiday and they have now used all of their savings. The police demanded 10,000 AED for bail which I’ve been told is not normal and the costs are mounting.
“I’m here all alone. I pray this nightmare will be over and I’ll be home for Christmas.”

Scott Mills has revealed the contents of his conversation with Liam Payne’s father following his emotional tribute to the late singer.
The presenter, 51, fondly recounted his memories with the One Direction star and joked that he felt like the ‘sixth member’ of the boy band, while on air last week as he addressed the ‘incredibly sad’ news of his death.
Speaking on his afternoon BBC Radio 2 show the day after Liam’s shock passing in Argentina on 16 October, Scott paid homage to his late pal and expressed his sorrow that the world has had to ‘say goodbye to him so soon’.
He told listeners: “I had so much fun with One Direction, as a lot of you will know, over the years and they are memories will stay with me for life, and Liam was such a big part of it.
“I’m still finding it really hard to believe today. I know a lot of you will be feeling this very deeply, as I am, this afternoon.”
Scott went on to explain how he had also got to know Liam’s loved ones over the years too, including his dad Geoff, who is also a big fan of his radio show.
The DJ then personally addressed the father-of-three while fighting back tears, saying: “Geoff, I don’t know if you’re hearing this, but my heart goes out to you today and to the rest of Liam’s family, and, of course, to his little boy.
“I just feel so incredibly sad about all of this. Liam, we had so much fun and you were always the kindest, most caring person to me.
“Thank you for letting me be part of your ride. I will never forget it.”

“The band were all so lovely always, but Liam was kind of the grown-up one in the group, the wise one,” Scott continued.
“And I can’t bear that this is where Liam’s story has ended.”
Fans praised Scott for the ‘beautiful’ and ‘heartfelt’ tribute to Liam, who passed away after falling from a third floor balcony at his hotel in Buenos Aires.
The preliminary results of an autopsy confirmed that he had died from ‘internal and external haemorrhaging’ sustained from the fall.
Geoff has since travelled to the Argentinian capital to organise the repatriation of his son and has been seen reading tributes left by fans outside of the Casa Sur Hotel, as well as picking up pictures of Liam to kiss them.
Scott revealed that he has been in touch with Liam’s dad while he has been in the South American country, explaining that Geoff had reached out to thank him for his moving tribute on Radio 2 last week.
Updating listeners, the host explained: “He won’t mind me saying this – I was texting Geoff, Liam’s dad, the other day when he was in Argentina and he said he has posted our tribute we did to Liam last week to the family WhatsApp group. He thought it was wonderful, especially all of the messages and comments you put underneath the video on the Radio 2 Instagram.

“He just wanted me to thank you all for all the beautiful heartfelt messages that you have put on there. He’s read all of them.
“And for him to reach out and say thank you like that during such a difficult time, where him and all of Liam’s close ones will be hurting so much, just shows you what I’ve known all along – what a kind family they are.
“So, sending you all our love Geoff to you and the rest of the family. And to all his friends. We’re all still thinking of you.”
In a joint statement on Thursday (17 October), Liam’s family said they were ‘heartbroken’.
It read: “Liam will forever live in our hearts, and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.
“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
Liam’s former partner and mother of his young son, Cheryl Cole, described his death as a ‘earth-shattering event’.
“Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our seven-year-old son,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.
“A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.”

The widow of a man who tragically died after being electrocuted in a jacuzzi while on holiday has revealed the haunting final words her late husband uttered.
Lizzette Zambrano, 35, has told of her heartbreak after losing her beloved partner Jorge Guillen, 43, during a trip to a resort in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico.
The couple, from Texas, had been enjoying a break in the holiday hotspot when they climbed into a jacuzzi at the private resort just after 8:30pm on 11 June, according to officials in the state of Sonora.
Jorge simply put his foot inside of the hot tub when he fell into an electric circuit and got trapped underwater, while his wife was also jolted by the current and suffered the same ordeal.
Eyewitnesses noticed that the pair were not moving in the water and alerted emergency services before attempting to administer CPR, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The Good Samaritans who tried to help were also reportedly shocked by the water due to what has been described as an ‘electrical discharge’.

Jorge and Lizzette were rushed to hospital following the incident, where he was sadly pronounced dead and she was left in a critical condition.
The widow has since filed a lawsuit in their home city of El Paso, Texas, for wrongful death and negligence, alleging that resort staff took 10 minutes to respond and that the hotel didn’t warn guests about the dangers.
Tej Paranjpe, an attorney at PMR law – a Houston-based firm that is taking the case on – said that the incident is ‘terrifying’ and claimed no member of staff intervened while Jorge was ‘getting continuously shocked again and again underwater’.
“There is no reason this should have happened,” Paranjpe said.
“Hotels and resorts have a duty to ensure guest safety. At no point did resort staff think to engage an emergency shut-off, not to mention warn guests of a faulty, dangerous amenity.”
Now Lizette has spoken out about the tragedy, saying that she believes it ‘could have been prevented’.
Speaking with ABC News’ Good Morning America about the loss of her husband, she tearfully said: “I still can’t believe it. A very good man was taken away.”
The widow says she ‘wants somebody to take accountability’. (Good Morning America)
Lizette claims that faulty wiring sent a live current into the water, which caused Jorge’s death.
Recalling his final words, the heartbroken widow explained: “I want somebody to take accountability for what happened to my husband and myself.
“The last thing I remember him saying is, ‘Oh s**t’.
“It’s the same time that I felt the first electric shock, and then it happened over and over and over, and I didn’t hear him again. A lot of people jumped in but they kept jumping out because the shocks were so strong.”
Lizette was dragged out of the water with a pulse before being rushed to hospital, where she then overheard nurses say that her husband ‘didn’t make it’.
Hot tub electrocution caused by faulty lighting and pumps is a rare occurrence, but vigilance is still key to make sure that equipment is properly taken care off, experts say.
Since the tragic incident, a GoFundMe has been set up to help with medical expenses and to repatriate Jorge’s body.
It says: “Our best friends have experienced a horrible accident. Jorge had a heart of gold and was always there for family and friends. The love they shared was one for ages.
“We are asking for your help to bring him home and help with medical expenses for her.”
At the time of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $56,326 (£44,606) of its $60,000 (£47,500) goal.
