Drew Barrymore has revealed how she was told by producers that she ‘took it too far’ while filming Never Been Kissed.

The iconic nineties film stars Barrymore as socially awkward Chicago Sun Times copy editor, Josie Gellar, who gets her big break when she has the chance to infiltrate her former high school as a research project on teen culture.

But she never imagines she’ll end up falling for her English teacher, Sam Coulson.

Speaking about her role in the movie, Barrymore has since said that she felt ‘scared’ during filming as she was told she’d made herself look ‘too unattractive’.

“I would get these calls from the studio and they were like, ‘I’m sorry, but you’re just looking too unattractive’,” she told the Hey, Dude podcast.

“And I was like, ‘good.’ And they were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no.’ They were like, ‘It’s too far’.”

Barrymore said she was then ‘forced to even tone it down a little bit because I had gone even farther than they were.’

Apparently, the studio gave her advice that ‘appealed to [her] sensibilities rather than [her ego]’, and said she shouldn’t ‘lose the heart because you’re going so far for the comedy’.

She added: “I was very stressed throughout the movie.

“What you see [in Never Been Kissed] is me dialled back and it came out and it worked and we got really lucky.”

The film – which had a budget of $25m – was a huge success and ended up grossing $85m.

The interview comes as Barrymore recently opened up about her surprisingly ordinary life.

The TV host and actress went viral in January after she shared a video to Instagram which showed her watching TV in her home.

Fans were immediately taken aback by the size of the star’s television set.

Barrymore has an eye-watering net worth of $125 million, so you might have expected a wall-to-wall screen in her living room.

But instead, it appeared that the 49-year-old had opted to go with a more modest television set upon a television stand.

Whilst some applauded her for not being overly extravagant, others felt she wasn’t actually filming in her house.

“Why is Drew Barrymore’s TV so small and bad. What’s going on. I’m unsettled,” one commenter admitted.

Another wrote: “The size of your TV and the simplicity of your home makes me love you even more.”

“I wanna work her out, check your DMs girl and I’ll be waiting.”

And it seems the feeling of attraction might be mutual, as Vorderman sent her admirer a voice note revealing that she was flattered that he has the hots for her.

Voderman has had two stints in the jungle herself, having appeared on I’m A Celeb back in 2016 before returning for the All-Stars series in South Africa in 2023.

Last year, Vorderman announced that she was polyamorous and admitted that she has a number of what she calls ‘special friends‘.

During an appearance on This Morning, she explained that she didn’t ‘want to settle’ with anyone and was happy being very non-committal – so much so that everyone involved needs to identify as ‘single’.

The exact amount of money Aniston and her co-stars brought in per episode has never been officially confirmed, however, there are numerous reports online providing us with an idea of how much it pays to be a main character on a popular TV series.

Spoiler alert, it’s a lot.

According to an Entertainment Weekly article from 2000, the cast were each paid around $75,000 (£57,225) per episode in the earlier years, which would go up as as the show’s profile – and their star power – increased.

By seasons 7 and 8, the fee is said to have risen to a whopping $750,000 (£572,283) per episode, which isn’t bad at all considering there was 24 episodes in each of the two seasons, meaning the actors would have made around $18,000,000 a season.

Which is certainly enough to comfortably afford the rent of a two bedroom apartment in West Village, which is where Rachel and Monica (Cox) lived for majority of the show.

However, this isn’t the highest salary Aniston and her co-stars were able to negotiate, with the last two seasons of Friends seeing the cast members pull in a massive $1 million (£762,050) per episode, per a report from Forbes.

The major payout caused the actors to earn the title of highest paid TV actors at the time, a record which would only be broken by the main stars of Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory in their final seasons.

These figures don’t factor in money made from royalties and residuals either, which means the cast will still be making money from a show which ended two decades ago.

With a wage like this you’d think that Aniston wouldn’t have to work again, right? However, the actress has since gone on to solidify her star power even further, negotiating a fee of $2 million (£1,982,000) an episode for her more recent series The Morning Show (according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter).

If there’s one thing people have learned from The Traitors, it’s to never take anything at face value.

The game show that thrives on trickery and treachery has kept viewers hooked in recent weeks.

Attracting over 8 million viewers per episode, with her highness Claudia Winkleman at the helm as host, this series of The Traitors is bigger than ever.

But the BBC hit reality show’s true location has been exposed and has left fans stunned.

Viewers at home watch the contestants rubbing shoulders in the elegant suites of the 30-bedroom Highland castle located in Scotland.

But while this is where the programme and all of its drama is filmed, it’s not actually where the players rest their heads at night.

Instead, they are hitting the hay in a £70-a-night airport hotel.

This revelation came from Alan Cumming, who hosted the US version of the show, which is filmed in the same location as the UK’s version – the Ardross Castle.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, he said: “They [the contestants] all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport. How glamorous – you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel!

“I stayed in a little house in Inverness. But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed. It had a huge bed in it. So I did actually sleep quite often, but not overnight.”

After each day of filming, the contestants rest up at the Courtyard by Marriott, which is a 40 minute drive away from the castle.

Fans took to social media to comment on Cumming’s admission, with one writing: “OMG! I always imagined they all stayed in individual little cottages on the castle estate somewhere – this is way less romantic than what I thought.”

Someone local to the area told Daily Mail: “The airport hotel has just opened when they were filming last year. These people took it over for a month, two months. It was a really good business.”

Guests at the hotel have claimed to have spotted security guards prowling the halls to keep contestants from conversing.

The Traitors in their midst would return to Ardross Castle to plot the ‘murder’ whilst everyone stayed in their rooms.

This revelation comes after Winkleman received high praise from viewers when she called out ‘sexist’ behaviour among the Traitors.

After the two remaining Traitors recruited yet another male to join them, Winkleman dropped a sassy comment saying: “It’s just like the olden days.”

And fans loved it.

One wrote: “Claudia CALLING OUT the traitors being all men honestly no other presenter in the UK is better,” while another said: “On the new traitor… ‘Another man? It’s like the olden days’.

“If that hasn’t nailed the BAFTA for Claudia Winkleman then there is absolutely no justice. She is simply magnificent on The Traitors.”
