Gregg Wallace to step away from MasterChef after 19 years due to investigation

Wallace was a co-presenter on the cooking show for 19 years.

Masterchef’s producer Banijay released the following statement: “This week the BBC received complaints from individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows.

“Whilst these complainants have not raised the allegations directly with our show producers or parent company Banijay UK, we feel that it is appropriate to conduct an immediate, external review to fully and impartially investigate.

“While this review is underway, Gregg Wallace will be stepping away from his role on MasterChef and is committed to fully cooperating throughout the process.

“Banijay UK’s duty of care to staff is always a priority and our expectations regarding behaviour are made clear to both cast and crew on all productions, with multiple ways of raising concerns, including anonymously, clearly promoted on set.

“Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met, are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.”

The statement added: “If anyone would like to talk to us or raise any issues or concerns, then they can contact speakup@banijayuk.com in confidence.”

A BBC spokesperson told PA: “We take any issues that are raised with us seriously and we have robust processes in place to deal with them.

“We are always clear that any behaviour which falls below the standards expected by the BBC will not be tolerated.

“Where an individual is contracted directly by an external production company we share any complaints or concerns with that company and we will always support them when addressing them.”

Last month Wallace responded to an investigation by the BBC which found he could continue to work for the company after an alleged incident in 2018 on Impossible Celebrities.

At the time he said: The story that’s hitting the newspapers was investigated promptly when it happened six years ago by the BBC.

“The outcome of that was that I hadn’t said anything sexual. I’ll need to repeat this again. I didn’t say anything sexual.”

Wallace has presented food-based TV shows for over 20 years, first appearing as a host on Saturday Kitchen in 2002.

He has been the co-presenter of MasterChef since 2005 alongside John Torode.

LADbible Group has contacted representatives for Gregg Wallace for comment.

After 20 long-awaited years, the face behind the MasterChef voice over has finally been revealed.

The BBC cooking competition is arguably the most iconic cooking TV show in the UK, having been on the air for two decades, which was a cause for celebration.

MasterChef kicked off semi-finals week by welcoming 70 guests for The MasterChef 20th Anniversary Dinner at Fishmongers’ Hall, Central London.

Guests comprised of previous winners, judges, Michelin-star chefs and one face that fans of the show were buzzing to see.

The budding chefs were put to the test by being asked to recreate a three-course meal that were inspired by past winner’s dishes, as all eight contestants were under pressure after being split into groups for the starters, two main dishes and desserts.

Host John Torode even contributed in the kitchen, as executive head chef.

There were a number of obstacles that the chefs needed to overcome during the episode, such as the ice cream machine breaking down, but they managed to whip up a 10/10 meal that warranted a standing ovation.

But for once, the food wasn’t the only focus of the episode as the iconic MasterChef narrator made her first physical appearance on the show as one of the guests.

India Fisher has one of the most famous voices on TV, despite rarely making a public appearance, so you can imagine that fans were thrilled to see her feature in the 20th anniversary episode.

The long-standing narrator also had her moment during the episode as she read out the menu on camera like she normally would.

Fisher announced: “I vowed I wouldn’t do this, but I’ll read the menu out loud.

“Pan-friend scallop, grilled red mullet, smoked cauliflower purée, straw potatoes with vinegar powder, fennel and gherkin pickle, scallop coral cracker.

“Sounds delicious!”

Fans were delighted with her contribution, as one user posted on X: “Omg everyone stop what you’re doing @MasterChefUK just had the voice over lady do a LIVE read of the menu at the event this year’s contestants are cooking for… She’s exactly how I pictured her.”

Another put: “Had to rewind when I heard her reading the menu and was like hold on a minute I know that voice.”

A third said: “The voice of #MasterChef has a face!!!”

Fisher told the BBC that MasterChef meant ‘a hell of a lot’ to her, saying she was lucky that she has had the job for 20 years.

Sending a message to fans, she thanked them for watching and said: “We’ve changed the British food scene for the better.

“People now are big foodies in this country and that’s in part down to MasterChef and down to you guys watching MasterChef. So, keep watching please, let’s do another 20 years!”

Torode called the episode an ‘extraordinary start to the semi-final’, with co-host Gregg Wallace adding that it was ‘one of the best events’ that he could remember on the show.

But it was still an episode of MasterChef, as two of the shows contestants, Tom and Cliodhna, were eliminated and had to hand their aprons.

Strict rules Masterchef contestants have to follow after woman immediately removed from show for dish she served

Strict rules Masterchef contestants have to follow after woman immediately removed from show for dish she served

Masterchef has the rules in place for a very good reason

Danni King

Masterchef’s strict rules have been explained after a contestant was sent home immediately for serving up a shocking dish.

When you see what she served the judges, you’ll understand why she was sent packing so quickly.

In 2020, Saray Carrillo, 27, left Masterchef Espãna when she disagreed with a cooking task and served up a dish which left the judges stunned.

Carrillo was mortified by one of the challenges where she had to pluck and cook a whole partridge. She had apparently expressed her fear of having to do such a task and took the challenge as a personal attack.

Defiantly, she decided to serve the bird, unplucked, uncooked and unappetising, garnished on a bed of spring onions, sauce and a couple of cherry tomatoes.

The judges, rightly so, grilled Carrillo and were not exactly sad to see the back of her. She then unsurprisingly left the competition.

The clip was from a season that aired in 2020 and went viral at the time, and has since been viewed 7.4 million times on YouTube.

In the UK, there’s actually a number of rules that have to be followed on Masterchef, especially when it comes to food. From sourcing the correct ingredients to ensuring there’s minimal waste, there’s plenty of preparation behind the scenes.

As Masterchef Espãna isn’t created by the BBC, it is unclear if the show follows the same procedures as the UK edition.

The show is very strict about sourcing ingredients, with sustainability as the main focus. All contestants are also asked to consider this when planning their menus.

Only the the quantity of ingredients necessary to make the required number of plates of food are to be ordered. The BBC also states that all ingredients will only be sourced from sources with transparent supply chains.

This specifically applies to fish and shellfish, game and veal. There is also a strict rule prohibiting the cooking of live animals, including lobster, crabs and octopus.

Food waste is also taken in account. The BBC states that ‘trying to reuse ingredients where practical across multiple challenges’ is one of the show’s aims.

Challenges using leftover ingredients are regularly set and the judges ‘look very harshly’ upon food waste, as this isn’t tolerated in the professional food industry.

It’s safe to say Carrillo’s dish wouldn’t have gone down well on UK Masterchef.

Fans blown away after discovering blink-and-you’ll-miss-it frame in Christopher Nolan’s Memento that reveals ending

Fans blown away after discovering blink-and-you’ll-miss-it frame in Christopher Nolan’s Memento that reveals ending

Memento is seen as one of Christopher Nolan’s most underrated films

Michael Slavin

No matter which film he releases, Christopher Nolan’s filmography is just full of perfect little hints that once discovered, change your viewing experience.

The most high-profile example is probably Interstellarwhere ticks every 1.25 seconds you hear on the planet Matthew McConaughey’s Cooper visits represent a full year they spend there.

Add to this the secret methods people have spotted to figure out whether you’re dreaming or not in Inception, or the references to Heat in The Dark Knight, and it’s clear Nolan loves leaving little clues and details hidden in his films.

The issue is though, unless one is new like Oppenheimer, you’ve often seen most of the big theories before.

In this case, however, one fan has found a detail in Memento which is a blink-and-you’ll-miss it frame so hidden it seems like it has only now been discovered, 24 years on from the film’s release.

For those who don’t know the film, Memento came out in 2000 and starring Guy Pearce, Carrie Ann Moss, and Joe Pantoliano, it is often considered one of Nolan’s most underrated.

The film has an average score of 8.4 on IMDb, added to its outstanding 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pearce stars as Leonard Shelby, an insurance investigator, who suffers from a rare form of amnesia.

To deal with this, he uses notes and tattoos, and uses these to try and hunt for the man who he thinks killed his wife.

Spoilers ahead for the end of Memento. It’s 24 years old and I’ve warned you, so no angry emails allowed.

The find was posted to the subreddit r/MovieDetails, as they wrote: “At 1hr 30 minutes into Memento (2000) the ending is revealed in a split-second blink-and-you’ll-miss it frame.”

If you don’t get it go watch the movie and come back, because the fact no one has noticed this until now is crazy.

The single frame of the film shows Sammy Jankis, played by Stephen Tobolowsky, with the face of Guy Pearce’s Leonard Shelby.

This, despite there being another 23 minutes of the film left, shows the reveal of the ending, that there was no Sammy Jankis and the implication that it was actually Leonard who killed his wife.

Film fans understandably lost it at this single frame showing the ending ahead of time.

One commented: “Holy sh*t, I considered myself a fan of this movie and never noticed this, damn”.

Another responded to one person who commented with a picture of the specific frame saying: “Omg thank you. I was staring at this forever and somehow still didn’t see it”.

A third commented: “Wow holy cr*p I would NEVER have caught that”.

A fourth said: “Bravo Nolan and bravo OP”.

MasterChef contestant sent home after making one huge mistake that 'nearly poisoned' judges

MasterChef contestant sent home after making one huge mistake that ‘nearly poisoned’ judges

Peter, 49, was shown the door after almost ‘poisoning’ Gregg Wallace and John Torode

Olivia Burke

When you’re cooking up a storm on MasterChef, you better bring your A game.

The landmark 20th series of the BBC‘s competitive cooking show is currently fascinating foodies across the UK, but despite it being on air for two decades, some contestants are still making very silly mistakes.

We all know very well by this point, that if the amateur chefs can’t handle the heat, Gregg Wallace, 59, and John Torode, 58, make no bones about slinging them out of the kitchen.

So when one of them ‘nearly poisoned’ the judges, it’s hardly surprising that he got the boot from this year’s MasterChef.

Poor Peter didn’t get a great reaction to the dish that he served up in Wednesday night’s (3 April) episode, which was supposed to include some caramelised carrots.

Peter had a bit of a nightmare.

BBC

In a classic case of mistaken identity, the 49-year-old accidentally chucked something else in the pan instead of the ingredients he was supposed to use, and well, the state of Gregg and John’s faces said it all really.

Social media users were left feeling very sorry for the bloke, from Ayrshire, Scotland, due to the blunder which cost him his place in the competition.

One viewer said in a post on X: “Bless him. Taxi for Peter!”

Another wrote: “Peter is already a series highlight.”

A third added: “I’m sure Peter’s a decent cook, but he’s had an utter nightmare under pressure.”

The 'caramelised carrots'.

BBC

Someone else joked: “Peter going down in a blaze of salty glory. And sugary tears.”

While a fifth chimed in: “Peter has broken my heart. Poor guy.”

So, how exactly did this IT consultant almost ‘poison’ Gregg and John?

Well, as well as raising their blood pressure by accidentally cremating his cabbage and making a mess of his fish dish, Peter also caused it to spike by overloading the pair with lashings of salt.

You see, while he was hovering over the stove and sorting out his carrots, the contestant made a schoolboy error and covered the veg in salt instead of sugar.

John's face said it all.

BBC

After getting a taste of the salty orange sticks, John hilariously grimaced as he asked: “What’s the acidic heat on the carrots?”

A panicked Peter responded: “There was none – that was just butter and sugar,” before the penny finally dropped as the judge explained he had made a classic mistake while under pressure in the kitchen.

Discussing the gaffe after losing his spot on the show, Peter said: “Nerves really got the better of me with that dish there. I feel disappointed, I can’t hide that.

“I nearly poisoned John and Gregg with salt rather than sugar.”
