Cruise line bans secret swingers symbol used by couples looking to swap partners A blow for those who are in to polygamy on the open seas

The world’s largest cruise line has revealed it has banned a secret symbol used by swingers on board its ships.

An ordinary cruise is one of the most unique holidays in its most basic state, travelling the world and visiting many of the most amazing places on the planet.

Alongside this, others like to spice things up – especially if they’re from the swinging community.

So-called ‘spicy’ cruises have become incredibly popular with those who like to share sexual partners, with these holidays becoming a haven for those in the community. From their exclusive red rooms to nude pool areas, they are definitely for people who are more in to embracing polygamy.

People from this community don’t always opt for the ‘spicy’ variety, though, with many advertising their status on ordinary cruise ships.

But Carnival Cruise Line, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc, has said one major symbol used by swingers to show off their lifestyle is now being banned.

What symbol is being banned?

Enter the world of the upside down pineapple. While knowledge of what it means is becoming more mainstream, many are still completely unaware of what it might indicate should you come across it.

How is it used on a cruise ship? Well, people like to decorate their cabin doors.

One major reason for this is to give your holiday that personal touch, with your cabin your home for however long you’re travelling on the open seas for. Another might be to easily locate it on the ship’s long corridors should you have one too many and forget your room number.

A third, though, is to show off your lifestyle choices.

This is where you might find the upside down pineapple on someone’s cabin door. It’s purpose? To tell other swingers that they might find what they are looking for inside the pineapple’d up cabin door.

Upside down pineapples no more, Carnival says

Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, often takes to Facebook to discuss matters concerning the cruise ship industry where he will respond to fans asking questions.

Responding to one follower complaining about the lack of events to help singles meet up while on board, Heald asked his followers how they might have met a significant other while cruising.

In one tongue-in-cheek reply, one follower said that an ‘upside down pineapple will do the trick’.

But in response to this, Heald thanked them for posting about the topic, writing: “Thank you for mentioning that, those are definitely no longer allowed on the ships and they will be removed from any cabin door.

“Thank you for reminding me to mention that. Hope all is well.”

Some followers joked about using other symbols now instead of the pineapple, clearly showing that such a policy would be futile with another symbolic gesture arising in time.

But others said it was welcome, citing times when the symbol had been stuck on their door by someone else, leading to unsolicited advances from other passengers.

Woman who works on ‘spicy’ cruise ships reveals exactly what happens in their ‘red rooms’

Woman who works on ‘spicy’ cruise ships reveals exactly what happens in their ‘red rooms’

A lot goes on behind the closed doors where no photos and videos can be taken

Tom Earnshaw

A woman who works on board ‘spicy’ cruise ships has explained exactly what happens behind the closed doors of the mysterious ‘red rooms’. And it’s not for the faint-hearted.

Spicy cruises are named just that by the community who travel on them given what happens when they leave port and it is all systems go.

Adults-only cruises by nature, it’s an environment that many people in the swinging community have been drawn to due to what is on offer when on board. And while not exclusively for swingers, the offer for couples to swap sexual partners is there if you want to enquire.

Kate Shelor has worked for one spicy cruise company, called Temptation, which buys out whole cruise ship routes exclusively for its clientele.

Based in Las Vegas, Kate is an expert in all things sex and relationships, with her being a qualified intimacy coach as well as a hypnotherapist.

And it has been her expertise that saw her employed by the cruise company for its tours, travelling twice on the spicy journeys.

One big part of her job is working in the so-called ‘red room’, which has caught the attention of many people both on the ship or enquiring from afar.

What is the red room?

The red room on Temptation’s spicy cruise holidays are a place where phones and cameras are banned, with the doors manned by staff. It is also only for couples, with singles only allowed if they are brought in by a couple.

Depending on the ship being bought out for the trip, the red room could be anywhere on board. But you’ll usually find it in one of the largest spots given how popular they can be.

Dubbed the red room, they are advertised as a ‘friendly space for those looking to experiment with their sexuality in a space where freedom reigns’.

What happens in the red room?

Well, you can probably imagine. But it’s also not black and white

“They bring all their own people and they will choose a large space on the cruise ship for this and they bring in brand new mattresses,” Kate told LADbible.

“You’ll see them loaded on to the ship as you’re boarding. As well as tonnes of clean sheets.”

She added: “They will make this room up every night with tonnes of mattresses on the floor, plastic covers, and then sheets on top. There’s towels and water. It looks sexy with sexy lighting.”

The mattresses are there for the obvious, with them used by people who want to have sex with their partner or someone else, depending on their interests and goals on any particular evening. But you can just sit and observe while having a drink, it’s not a requirement to get involved.

Kate’s job in the red room

Kate’s work with Temptation has seen her put on ‘hypnotic sex sessions’ in the red room.

“I teach people a little bit about the subconscious mind and then I have everyone in the room on their own mattresses within their relationship and I have everyone close their eyes,” she says.

The purpose of the sessions? Kate will guide the red room, which can have up to 80 people in it, to orgasm at the same time; something she describes as a ‘really cool’ experience.

Rules of 'spicy cruise' where couples can swap their partners after woman showed what they're really like

Rules of ‘spicy cruise’ where couples can swap their partners after woman showed what they’re really like

Believe it or not, there are still rules to follow on a ‘spicy’ cruise…

Cruises are all the range at the minute, with many Brits opting for a holiday out at sea instead of their usual all-inclusive resort deals.

But it seems for a select few of these newly found cruise-goers, ‘couple swapping’ is also on the cards.

Yep, ‘spicy’ adult cruises are indeed a thing and are perfect for couples looking to add a bit of heat into their sex lives, all while taking a voyage of a lifetime.

One such cruise is the Celebrity Summit ship, which comes courtesy of Cancun-based company Temptation Cruises.

And for those who are dying to know what it’s actually like onboard one of these voyages, TikTok couple Bella and Jase recently vlogged their entire trip with Temptation Cruises.

The couple – who practice ethical non monogamy and share content on their @4ourplay.com account – described the ship as ‘super contemporary and modern’, with Bella giving fans a quick tour and pointing out that the ‘playrooms’ were visible, while showing numerous beds dotted around the decks.

Bella added a hanging pineapple to their door – which has a secret code that only those who are in the know will understand – as well as attending a ‘pyjama party’ themed evening where they mingled with other couples.

All in all, passengers on the Celebrity Summit – which has the capacity to house 2,218 swingers – get their own cabins and are free to do as they please.

As well as coming with food, drink and entertainment, Temptation Cruises describes its service as ‘the most exhilarating party vacation of your life’.

But while passengers may do what they please with each other, there are still rules to follow, as standard with any other cruise ship.

So, what must passengers abide by outside of the bedroom?

Dress appropriately

Pool areas and the beach are parts of the trip where bikini tops are optional, meaning people can strip off if they please, but Temptation adds: “For the comfort of all guests, we ask that you use the appropriate attire in all other public areas, including dining facilities.”

Photography

Temptation explains that ‘some guests may want to keep their identities private’, so photography without permission isn’t permitted.

“Due to the unique concept of our resort, we ask that when taking photos and / or video, you only do selfies and close-ups for personal use, no wide angles,” the holiday provider says.

Show some respect

Guests are told to keep noise down when in hotel corridors after midnight, with Temptation joking: “We don’t want to have to give anyone a time-out!”

No drugs

While the company notes that it has ‘created open-minded atmosphere’, there’s a complete ban on drugs.

Staff and guest relationships

There’s a strict ban on staff having an ‘intimate’ relationship with a guest or even having a drink with them. Doing so would result in instant dismissal.

“In order for all guests to fully enjoy their Temptation experience, we ask you to respect the playground rules.”

Keep it private

One last big rule is that explicit activities between guests are not allowed in any of the public areas of the ship.

The next Temptation Cruises holiday sets sail in February 2025 and starts from $193 per person, per night. That includes an unlimited bar, according to its website.

You have to be 21 or over to go on the cruise due to the USA’s laws on drinking alcohol.

If you enjoy sailing the seven seas and fancy the idea of swapping romantic partners with fellow tourists, it sounds like this ‘spicy’ adults cruise could be for you.

For those looking to rejuvenate their sex life with like-minded couples who are also in the same boat, you can leave your inhibitions on the shore while you take the voyage of a lifetime.

There is a big misconception about the so-called ‘spicy’ cruises, as they aren’t just having full-blown sex parties in international waters – and there are plenty of rules for passengers to abide by.

Yet in the same breath, it’s certainly not your run-of-the-mill holiday where you can take the kids.

Thankfully, TikTokers Bella and Jase – who practice ethical non monogamy – share content on their @4ourplay.com account and are being hailed as saviours by swingers across the globe who are debating on whether to dip their toe into the spicy cruise world.

That’s because the pair vlogged their entire trip onboard the Celebrity Summit cruise ship, which they booked through Cancun-based company Temptation Cruises.

Describing the ship as ‘super contemporary and modern’, she gave fans a quick tour and pointed out that the ‘playrooms’ were visible – while showing numerous beds dotted around the decks.

The holidaymaker then got down to decorating the door to their cabin so that passersby will know she and Jase are down to F, with Bella adding that it’s a ‘known thing’ that this is used as a signal.

She attached a series of swinging-related memes to the door, some of which included innuendos such as: “Cum on in!”

But the decorating wasn’t complete until Bella added a hanging pineapple – which has a secret code that only those who are in the know will understand.

She later put on her best swimwear as she headed down to the pool area to ‘mingle’, before she went on to show how herself and her husband got ready for a ‘pyjama party’ theme night.

The top and bottom of it is, passengers on the Celebrity Summit – which has the capacity to house a whopping 2,218 swingers – get their own cabins and are free to do as they please.

Like any other cruise ship, it comes with the usual perks too – such as food, drink and entertainment.

Advertising their holidays, Temptation Cruises describes its service as ‘the most exhilarating party vacation of your life’.

The firm says that there is plenty of fun to be had between visiting different destinations.

It explained: “Join us at the areas where bikini tops are optional (the pool and sundecks), or how about a visit to our clothing-optional spot or to the playroom.

“In addition, enjoy thematic pool parties, daring activities, tempting workshops, incredible DJs, and outrageous theme nights. You can do as much or as little as you choose, the decision is up to you.”

If all this sounds up your street, there is still time to secure yourself a seat on the next Temptation cruise, which will take place on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, The Pearl, next February.

Prices for the one week holiday start from $193 per person, per night, while the most expensive package is $30,000 for six people – which is already sold out.
