The pair star alongside each other in popular US sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Written by the co-owner of Wrexham A.F.C, Devito has played Frank Reynolds since the second season of the now 16-season long show (with two more definitely set to come).
McElhenney’s was pretty sweet too, even if some did panic when they first saw it – “You can’t just post a pic like this man I had a heart attack,” one user wrote in the comments.

The actor shared a solo snap of Devito to Instagram as he wrote in the caption: “This man was born 80 years ago today. He could still drink you under the table. He could still make you laugh harder than anyone you’ve ever met.
“He could still make you feel like you’re the only person in the room. He could still give you the best advice you’ve ever gotten and make you feel loved no matter what.
“He’s an American treasure. There is only one @dannydevito Happy Birthday!!!!”
And initially panicked users quickly commented to say: “Rob scared me last year, so I made a mental note that Danny’s birthday is in November, and he still got me this year.”
Others piled on the celebrations as they shared their favourite Frank Reynolds and Devito quotes and memes.
“National Treasure!” others agreed as they called the star a ‘hero’.

Fellow Always Sunny star Kaitlin Olson, who plays Dee Reynolds, also shared a birthday tribute: “Happy birthday to my favourite (rum) ham. Danny DeVito is everything you want him to be. Lights up every room, makes sure everyone is taken care of, gives his whole heart to everything and everyone he loves. Here’s to 80 more. I wouldn’t put it past him.”
Mary Elizabeth Ellis also wrote: “Happy Birthday to one of the most generous, fun loving, funny, kind, smart, lovely people I know.
“I’m so grateful to have known and loved you (and your wonderful family) for 20 years! You have enriched my life in endless ways. Gratitude doesn’t cover it all, but it’s a great place to start. Happy Birthday, Danny! #dannydevito I love you a lot.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney haven’t seemed concerned about ruffling feathers in the football world since they copped a UK club, so it’s hardly surprising that they might be window shopping for some of the most popular players.
The Wrexham FC co-owners have been hitting the headlines ever since they bought the club in November 2020, whether it’s been splashing serious cash to make their takeover worthwhile or partying in Vegas with the lads.
Brits have been bowled over by their generosity too, seen as though the famous duo have made admirable moves such as saving a local business from closing after thieves robbed it’s stock.
All in all, it’s been quite the fun rollercoaster ride watching Reynolds and McElhenney make a name for themselves on the football circuit.
It seems they have made quite the impression on some big names too, as legends on the pitch such as Rio Ferdinand reckon that the actors are ready to make a big swing.
The former England ace, 45, predicts that Reynolds and McElhenney are planning on poaching a player, which he reckons could be the ‘biggest signing’ in Wrexham’s history.

As the team have secured a steady stream of promotions leading them to League One under the guide of the Hollywood stars, it seems that fans have every faith that the only way these two are taking them, is up.
The Deadpool star, 47, and the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia funnyman, also 47, are rumoured to be eyeing up a string of players to join their club to strengthen their squad.
One name in particular seems to keep cropping up in reports, seen as though he has managed to drag Leicester City back to the Premier League without breaking a sweat.
That’s right, it’s…….Jamie Vardy.
Come on, I had to get a Wagatha Christie joke in somewhere, didn’t I?

Anyway, as the striker’s contract with his club is coming to an end this summer, it is rumoured that Reynolds and McElhenney might pounce if he can’t hammer out a new deal with Leicester City.
And according to Ferdinand, the only place it makes sense for the 37-year-old to go is Wrexham.
During the latest episode of his FIVE podcast, the dad-of-four explained that he reckons Vardy, Reynolds and McElhenney would be a match made in heaven.
Ferdinand said: “The only club I’d like him [Vardy] to go to now, if he’s going to leave, would be Wrexham.
“Because it’s got a bit of a Hollywood feel, and he’s had a Hollywood career I think.”
As the first non-league player to be signed for a whopping £1million who’s gone on to become a key cog in the works at Leicester City, Vardy’s rise has been something you would see in a blockbuster.
Obviously, it remains to be seen – but Wrexham fans might want to gear up for a historical signing later this year.

A lot of us will have woken up with a rough head this morning, but I’ll bet it didn’t come close to the state of Rob McElhenney’s in his New Year’s Eve photo dump.
The actor, who co-owns Wrexham FC with Ryan Reynolds, sparked serious concern among fans when he shared a snap of his huge swollen head on December 31.
In the selfie, his face appeared to have ballooned in size and become disfigured – but he brushed off his bulging features that had swollen one of his eyes shut and simply dubbed it a ‘slight allergic reaction‘.
Even McElhenney’s celeb pal and fellow comic Mindy Kaling said she had ‘almost dropped her phone’ after seeing the shocking image, while her young son ‘screamed’ at the sight.
And a lot of us lot did the same when we stumbled across the post and got the shock of our lives while scrolling through Instagram having a nosy at everyone’s 2023 roundups.
Instagram/@robmcelhenney
The 46-year-old film star shared a carousel of images with fans showing his highlights of last year, which included pictures of him with his wife and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Kaitlin Olson, a selfie with Prince Harry as well as a snap of him and Reynolds chatting to King Charles and Camilla on the pitch. As photo dumps go, it’s pretty hard to top that.
But as we all know, we were all hit with a lot of ups and downs throughout the last 12 months – and it looked like life had really given McElhenney a beating.
He captioned his post: “Aside from that slight allergic reaction to the nuts, 2023 was one of the best years of my life.
“Thank you to the people and places that made it possible. My life is full of love and joy because of you. So excited for 2024. I’ll stay away from the nuts.”
And social media users were obviously left stunned by his terrifying appearance and couldn’t believe he had supposedly suffered such a severe reaction.
Instagram/@robmcelhenney
One said: “Holy f**k. I feel like with that reaction to nuts you probably had to be close to actually dying.”
Another wrote: “That’s not real… is it? Our faces can do that???”
A third joked: “I thought there was a Goonies remake coming out!! Heyyy youuuu guyyyss!!”
A fourth added: “That first slide can’t be real…is it real?? I really impressed and/or horrified.”
And a fifth commented: “Girl please tell me that’s makeup.”
Well, you’ll be relieved to hear that McElhenney‘s head did not really double in size and misshapen in real life – it was actually his iconic character Mac who suffered the dramatic allergic reaction. Take a look here:
The actor had to don prosthetics for an episode in season 16 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where he suffered from a severe peanut allergy but couldn’t stop chomping on his value size tub of ‘Extra Fancy Nuts’.
Despite his lips becoming incredibly swollen and struggling to breathe, he continues to eat his snack and insists he must of had a reaction to blowing up inflatable furniture.
By the end of the episode, his entire face has blown up – but he wants to go to Costco rather than the hospital to, you guessed it, get more nuts.
So you can stop panicking, it was just a prank – and McElhenney didn’t really start 2024 off looking like Sloth from Goonies.

If you need another reason to love Rob McElhenney even more, just listen to the way he speaks about his two mothers.
It may be news to some people, but the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star was raised by more than two parents.
And the Wrexham co-owner absolutely adores the socks off the lot of them – but he has an extra special place in his heart for his two mums, Helena McElhenney and Mary Taylor, who he describes as a ‘great gift’. Take a look at the happy couple here:
The actor’s biological mum, Helena, got divorced from his dad when he was around 8 or 9 years old after she came out as a lesbian – a situation which she described as ‘really, really tough’.
Rob’s parents remained close despite their split and he doesn’t look back with any malice on the breakup of his family.
Instead, he only has pure happiness that Helena had the bravery to live as her true self, especially in a time where gay relationships were still frowned upon.
In the FX documentary Welcome to Wrexham, the 46-year-old said he could proudly ‘look back at his parents and recognise the amount of courage that it took for them to do exactly what they did’.
Speaking of his beloved mum Helena, he said: “I have so much empathy for her in that situation because it was a different time. And anybody who is over the age of 35 who’s watching this can understand.

He added: “I think one of the most beautiful things about our culture right now is anybody under the age of 35 might not even know what the f**k I’m talking about.”
Helena admitted she was ‘afraid – not only for my children, but for myself’ when she finally plucked up the courage to come out, but said she knew she was destined to be with Mary from ‘the minute she met her’.
Rob continued: “I get asked a lot about what it was like to have two moms and the truth is I don’t know anything different. “It was pretty great. It definitely shaped my view of the world, my perspective. We had to recognise that not every family looked exactly the same.”
He was over the moon when his two mums featured in a GLAAD video for Mother’s Day back in 2021, where they discussed the things they have overcome throughout their now-39-year relationship.
In the video, Helena said: “Who you love and how you love is your business, but sometimes you need a little help.”

Her beloved wife then added: “And don’t worry about other people. Rely on the community for support.”
Rob shared the video on X, formerly Twitter, alongside the tear-jerking caption: “No family looks exactly the same. So proud to call both of these ladies ‘Mom’.” Honestly. How adorable can you get?
The Mythic Quest star praised his parents for how they raised him and his siblings, while adding that the addition of a second mum in their lives was a ‘pretty great gift’.
He added: “By the standards of 1984 South Philadelphia, our upbringing was unconventional, but my brother, sister, and I were able to recognise early on that not every family looked exactly the same or like what we saw on television.
“Yet we had nothing but love and support and compassion and empathy. And I think that allowed us to flourish.”
Rob also has two brothers who are gay, so he says he has ‘always been part of the gay community’.
Kudos to Helena, Mary and his father for bringing up such a sweet boy.

A social media star has called out Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney following the announcement of their Wrexham Lager take-over.
Not too long ago Wrexham was no different to anywhere else in Wales, however, the city has been on a very unique trajectory over the past couple of years thanks to an investment from two Hollywood actors.
We’re are of course talking about Reynolds and McElhenney’s decision to purchase Wrexham AFC in November 2020.

The club has since been on whirlwind trajectory, returning from the non-league football wilderness to be promoted twice to their current standing in League One. It’s a journey which has also been documented via Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham, which has helped the club gain worldwide recognition and support.
It’s certainly a wonderful reversal of fortunes for long-term fans of the club, which means you’d expect they wouldn’t mind Reynolds and McElhenney’s decision to expand their takeover of the town by becoming co-owners of Wrexham Lager.
The duo announced their acquisition of what is said to be oldest brewery in Britain in spectacular fashion on 30 October, which included using morse code telegraphs to signify the lager’s long history, having been founded in 1882.
“The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offsides rule and the occasional need for beer – especially after finance meetings,” the pair added in a statement.
“Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history and we’re excited to help write its next chapter.”
Fans appeared to be generally happy with the announcement online, however, the positive reaction didn’t include super-fan Bootlegger – real name Karl Phillips – who replied ‘duck ’em mate’ to someone asking for his thoughts on the takeover.
Phillips’ relationship with the football club and brewery goes a long way back, with the amassing a large following online for documenting his days drinking and watching Wrexham games. His popularity even led to a collaboration between Wrexham Lager and himself back in 2020, called the Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner.
However, the relationship would later turn sour after Phillips accused the brewery of failure to pay him for the deal – a claim which Wrexham Lager has since denied.
The content creator made his thoughts clear on the news (X/@bootlegger1974)
Phillips appeared to claim that Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover meant his deal was no more.
“Insisted I was removed,” he wrote, but did not specify whether this was referring to the brewery or Reynolds and McElhenney’s themselves.
